Learn about Let’s Go Trivia and how it came to be!

How did it all start?

The idea for Let’s Go Trivia was born many, many years ago when founder Garry Leavy would return home annually to his native Ireland for the holidays. On Christmas night he would host a “quiz” in his parents’ kitchen for a few friends and his always-complaining-about-the-answers older brother.

In 2013 whilst working at Gleason’s in Peekskill, Garry began hosting a trivia night on Wednesdays while bartending (impressive, right!). It was a great success and Gleason’s would be packed every week. He quickly realized that trivia could draw in a loyal weekly following, but it was not until 2016 that Garry began pursuing other locations to see if his trivia could get the same result of a busy night. Quickly his first location became a very busy Tuesday trivia, and Garry soon expanded to locations stretching from upstate to NYC!

Where did the name come from?

There’s no great story behind the name so we won’t make one up! Simply put, Garry needed a website domain name and every trivia name that he liked (New York Trivia, Tri-State Trivia, Empire Trivia) was taken. Working through his list of ideas, Garry finally came upon one that was not spoken for — “Let’s Go Trivia” — and so the name quickly stuck.

What is the format for playing Let’s Go Trivia?

Let’s Go Trivia has a simple format. Fifty multiple-choice questions, covering a wide range of entertaining topics — there’s always a little something for everyone! Players answer questions on their phones or other devices. The questions are timed, and as the time ticks down, so does the points value…so answer quickly! The team with the most points after 50 questions is the winner! What else can you tell us?

Let’s Go Trivia runs year-round, with a new league beginning each season. League play is ten weeks long, during which time teams’ points accumulate. The two teams which have accumulated the most points at each location after the ten weeks will qualify for the Let’s Go Trivia grand final where they will compete against the top teams from other Let’s Go Trivia locations!
